When will the New 55 project actually have a product? When I began to dabble in analog film photography again after a long 20 year break I quickly realized that the world had changed. In the old days commercial photographers would use instant film to verify that their composition, exposure and camera where as expected. This would give them a high degree of predictability insurance against the human goofs that can and do occur during a photo shoot. Using the "Polaroid test shot" was the way I learned to prep for a shot which could sometimes take hours to compose, focus, light and adjust. As the saying goes time is money and while not the least expensive thing in the world Polaroid film was far cheaper then taking everything down, going home, waiting a couple of days for the lab and then finding out that your shot isn't any good. While I was not shooting for profit or gain this helped prevent the inevitable disappointment from having a lot of bad sheets of film. The products and materials that simply were no longer available in the market became a real obstacle.
So I have been following with some interest the development of "New 55". It is a skunk works project that has been attempting to develop not just a replacement for Polaroid 55 black and while instant 4x5 film but an improved product. One that would produce not only a good posative but also a good working negative. With Fuji leaving the 4x5 instant filme market what choice do we have but hope that some other creative entrepreneur is successful at bringing new and improved products. Unfortunately while they seem to be making good technical progress they are finding funding and capital to launch the actaul production of the new product very difficult. This means that what looked to be just around the corner a few months ago is pushed out even further. I will post a link to their blog here, look to the end and also place it in the resources section so that if you like you can read the actual post by the developers themselves. We can only hope that as the economy improves someone with capital will find this a viable investment. New 55 Instant Film Blog
Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed.

St. Louis VP Fair and Fourth of July Celebration
I am fortunate enough to have a really good vantage point for seeing the riverfront festivities here in St. Louis. The 15th Floor office location of the place where I work at Oculus Inc. That means air shows, bands, crowds and of course fireworks. Here are some of my photos from this past holiday. These are just some of the many photos taken over a three day stretch. Enjoy! Comments are certainly welcomed.

Clayton Boys Lacross Game Photo Links
For everyone associated with the Clayton Missouri Boys Lacrosse Club. I have posted links to "All" of the photos that I have taken this year here on the Blog. I will keep these links up as long as I have space on Dropbox to house them for free. Please look through the images. Many of you have asked for photos of your boys in games. This is everything I have since I cannot attend every game. I however have a good collection of Junior Varsity and Varsity games represented. Most of you will likely find good shots. I try to cover the players in the middle the action. If I can get more free Dropbox storage space I will keep these images up for a longer time. You can help me get more free space by opening an account with Dropbox and using me as a referral. If you use the link below we can both benefit. If you are not a current Dropbox user follow the link, set up an account for yourself and we both will get free space! This was a great season for Clayton Lacrosse and many thanks to Club management and coaches!!! Congratulations to the graduating seniors!

Photographing Lacrosse Clayton LAX Varsity Vs. Hickman
This was a blowout game with the Clayton Varsity team shutting out the Hickman Varsity squad 15-0 on a cold gray day at Gay Field in Clayton. Since the Clayton team was so dominant on offense it was a day to get many more images of shots on goal and passing in the offensive zone. Clayton's long poles had very little to do in this game. There a some game shots from the following JV game vs. Hickman JV. The weather turned really nasty and the JV team beat Hickman JV 16-0 in a hard cold rain!

Photgraphing Lacrosse
Tonight's post is a collection of images from one of my sons Lacrosse games. Photographing fast moving sports with older gear and in low light conditions is a challenge. I hope you enjoy these images. My goal was to capture the sense of action. To see the entire unedited photo shoot from the game, the good the bad the just plain nothing, see my photo albums on Picasa

New55 Film: New55 and 20x24 demonstrate instant color 8x10 wit...
So I was googling around the Internet and found this link. It seems these guys are working on a totally new form of instant photographic film material. It produces positive images and negatives at the same time with little or no waist. Wow! Link to Flicker slide show of images
I will be doing more research into this. This would be a fantastic thing for those of us who would like to find a more logistically feasible analog photographic process that allows us to use our large format cameras!!

Collection of Rural and Urban Images
I took these images a few weeks back over a coupe of days between Christmas and New Years. I had to drive to Columbia Missouri for a project and decided to take the back roads home and photograph. I found some really interesting architecture, some abandoned buildings, and some powerful landscapes. Please enjoy. If you like these images please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
Thanks!
